[...] So just when we thought online photo printing business has reached that price wars stage in India, along comes this handy feature by PicSquare - integration with Flickr. You can now print your Flickr photos via PicSquare. So while Flickr already provides and will hopefully continue to innovate on and provide awesome sharing features, PicSquare can concentrate on their core business - printing and delivery. I personally will even pay a buck or two extra if I don’t have to upload pictures separately just for printing. I love this feature. In fact now I wonder why anyone didn’t attempt this before. While on this topic, I must also mention that iTasveer launched a similar feature sometime back by providing integration with Windows Vista. While Windows vista might take some time to find its roots in India, it will be interesting to find out what gets more NRI customers - integration with Flickr or with Vista. (it’s a different story that I have no way of getting this number) [...]

Ashish,

Thanks for sharing your inputs here. Seems like it might be a little while for mobile + photo printing to become a reality. With the amount of traction in the Indian market - both in mobile and Internet space, and other "interesting" factors such as low PC and Internet penetration etc. - my hope (as Neeraj says in the above comment) is to see a much richer and useful convergence of the two media, compared to other markets.

Hi Madhur,

While, some features around mobile phones would definitely be in order, I don't think photo printing is the top one. It needs several enablers - a) 3G services - crucial if you want to upload high resolution images. b) Greater penetration of high res camera phones. While mobile phones are ubiquitous, megapixel camera ones arent. And all megapixel upwards camera phone are upwards of 8-9k. c) Better phones - Even if you get a megapixel camera, they lack things like autofocus, flash - which leaves a lot to be desired in the clicked pictures.d) Of course, mobile payments have to become more commonplace - this enabler seems to be taking the right turn.
To make it really disruptive the feature set would therefore be different - with photo printing perhaps as an add-on.

Madhur,
snapfish, an HP company, already allows for uploading pictures from a camera phone. It works if you are on one of these carriers -
Alltel Wireless, Cincinnati Bell Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Former AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, MetroPCS Wireless, Midwest Wireless, Nextel Wireless, Sprint Wireless, TMobile Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Virgin Wireless, US Cellular, Western Wireless.

You should see this concept coming to high-density mobile phone markets very soon.
